The Founding of Sankore Afrikan Society
In 1999, following a transformative journey to The Gambia, Mansa Sundiata Keita Kamara founded the Sankore Afrikan Society.
During his journey, including visits to historic sites connected to the transatlantic slave trade, he developed an even deeper commitment to the restoration and preservation of African culture and identity.
Sankore Afrikan Society was established as an institution dedicated to African history, cultural education, leadership development, identity, unity, and reconnecting people of African descent with their ancestral heritage.
Today, Sankore Afrikan Society also serves as an educational and cultural foundation for those seeking to understand and participate in the vision of Mali Kaylibeefay.
The Gambia and Mandinka Warrior Traditions
Mansa Sundiata Keita Kamara's relationship with The Gambia became an important part of his cultural development and leadership journey.
In 2001, elders in Gunjur, The Gambia, including Chief Alhaji Sheriff Jahanne, honored him with an appointment connected to the preservation and leadership of Mandinka warrior traditions.
This relationship strengthened his commitment to preserving African traditions and transmitting them responsibly to future generations.
Study Under Iba Ndiaye
In 2004, Mansa Sundiata Keita Kamara met Iba Ndiaye, a respected teacher of Mandinka and Malian traditions.
Iba Ndiaye accepted him as a student and became an important teacher and mentor in his continued study of Mandinka, Malian, and West African traditions.
This relationship helped deepen Mansa Kamara's understanding of the cultural traditions that would later influence the development of Mali Kaylibeefay.
A Lifetime in Martial Arts
Martial arts have also played a major role in Mansa Sundiata Keita Kamara's life and philosophy of leadership.
He began training in martial arts at approximately six years old and began teaching while still a teenager.
Throughout his life, he has used martial arts not simply as a method of physical training, but as a vehicle for discipline, character development, responsibility, cultural education, mentorship, and service to the community.
His martial arts work reflects the same philosophy that guides his broader leadership:
Knowledge and power carry a responsibility to serve others.
Mali Kaylibeefay — Mali Empire West
In 2024, Mansa Sundiata Keita Kamara was recognized and elevated as Mansa within the cultural tradition that had shaped his years of study and service.
That same period marked the establishment of Mali Kaylibeefay — Mali Empire West, a modern African institution inspired by the historical legacy, traditions, values, and governing heritage associated with the historic Mali Empire.
Mali Kaylibeefay is not the historic Mali Empire.
It is a modern institution that looks to African history for wisdom and inspiration while addressing the needs of African people today.
Mali Kaylibeefay seeks to strengthen relationships among Africans on the continent and throughout the African Diaspora and to advance cultural restoration, education, unity, leadership, economic development, and homecoming.
